Shilla Benning is an award winning Costume Designer and Stylist. She has designed prime time TV series, pilots, films, specials, theatrical productions, and live concerts. Ms. Benning is recognized for her unique ability to authenticate characters in any time period. She is respected for her ingenuity, grace, and genuine work ethic which she brings to every project.

 

Shilla is a member of The Costume Designer’s Guild, Local and Local 479.


Ms. Benning has served as Assistant Designer on several feature films including The Reluctant Fundamentalist starring Kefir Southerland and Kate Hudson, One Missed Call starring Ed Burns. She has been the assistant designer on multiple seasons of 3 television series: Drop Dead Diva, The Vampire Dairies, and House of Payne were she was elevated to Designer in season 4 of the hit series. Shilla designed the 2009 Soul Train Awards, 4 installments of the Showtime Networks’ Comedy Special Shaquille O’Neal All Star Comedy Jam and the Stand-up Feature Film "Laugh at My Pain" starring Kevin Hart.

She has styled Hip-Hop Artist to Hollywood royalty including, Bow Wow, Ciara, Terrence Howard, Erykah Badu, Andre 3000, Taraji P. Henson, Brooke Elliott, and Jasmine Guy.

 

Shillas’ experience in theatrical costume design and construction is vast and ranges from one woman shows to complete contemporary operas.
